M&S Data Governance Manager
What this position is about – Purpose:
The Data Governance Framework is a company-wide mechanism to ensure data is accurate, reliable, and fit for purpose by embedding clear ownership, standardized processes, and enabling tools across the full data lifecycle. It’s about managing data as a strategic asset throughout its lifecycle.
The Master Data Governance Office (MGDO), part of Data & Analytics and Innovation department, is responsible for the Data Governance Framework definition and rollout across JTI business functional areas: Marketing & Sales, Finance, Global Supply Chain, Research and Development etc.
We, Master Data Governance Office, are looking for the Data Governance Manager to lead Data Governance Framework roll-out in Marketing & Sales.
What will you do – responsibilities:
Data Governance Framework:
- Roll out the enterprise Data Governance Framework in Marketing & Sales, mainly in Consumer (B2C), Customer (B2B) and Product data domains focusing on data quality, trusted master data, and business ready data services
- Following Business and Digital & IT organizational structure and in consultancy with subject matter experts, define data ownership and stewardship
- On-board Business and IT stakeholders in correspondent data governance roles
- Together with data owners and stewards implement data governance processes with clear ARCI
- Lead / support the preparation of gata governance committees with Business and IT stakeholders to align in a strategical direction, remove roadblocks, and resolve escalations
Governance Standards, Policies and Procedures:
- Implement and maintain data standards, policies, and procedures; ensure consistent adoption across Global Business and Markets (countries).
- Facilitate / consult Business and IT how to define data quality rules and metrics, indicators of performance to ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements
Market Knowledge and Data Governance solutions:
- Stay informed of the best data governance practices and research suppliers to identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of data assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the business processes
- Facilitate Data Governance solutions evaluation from technical and functional sides for data governance initiatives and other enterprise projects according to the industry standards and cutting-edge technologies
Communication and Collaboration:
- Engage a network of Business / IT stakeholders and manage relations between them and central Data & Analytics team where there is influence but not authority
- Serve as a liaison between Business and IT to ensure that data governance related requirements are clearly defined, communicated and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
- Work on the delivery of Data Governance communication plans to help establish a cultural change in how data governance is perceived and managed in the company
Training and Support:
- Work with Business teams and other Data & Analytics teams to ensure key business users are educated and trained in what data governance practices are currently implemented and available within JTI to meet business requirements and consequently maintain the data strategy aligned with them.
Who are we looking for – requirements:
- University degree in Computer Science or similar
- 3+ years of experience in defining and implementing data governance frameworks (following DMBOK), setting up a proper data governance organization.
- CDPM certification is a plus
- Experience in Marketing & Sales business area is a plus
- Knowledge of data privacy and compliance requirements affecting consumer / customer data

Data quality, lineage and metadata concepts knowledge

Strong understanding of modern cloud-based data platforms and how they support data ingestion, storage, analytics, and governance.

Knowledge and certifications in Azure Data Services is a plus
- Experience in Data Catalog implementation for business is a plus
- Knowledge of modern Data Analysis and Visualization tools: Excel, Power BI
- Demonstrated business analysis skills, As-Is and To-Be processes definition that integrate data governance activities
- Proven project management experience, applying modern delivery techniques
- Solid presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data, governance, and technical concepts clearly and concisely to both business and IT stakeholders
- Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change
- Fluency in English
