Tampa Bay started the game strong on offense, out-shooting Montreal 12-5 in the first period, but came up empty, which would cost them later in the game. One of Montreal’s five shots was Anderson’s first-period goal, beating Andrei Vasilevskiy to open the scoring. Barclay Goodrow tied the game in the second on a goal off a beautiful pass from Ryan McDonagh. In the second period, Montreal took more control in the offensive end, despite the game being tied after two frames.
As the Tampa Bay Lightning were cutting into their chicken parmesan at the team hotel following their Game 4 loss in overtime to Montreal, denying them the opportunity to sweep the Canadiens and lift the Stanley Cup for a second-straight season, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper surveyed the post-game meal room.
A couple staff members were lamenting the fact the Lightning had let a golden opportunity to make history slip away. The Bolts hit three posts in the contest and had a four-minute power play with the game tied at the end of regulation and extending into overtime they couldn’t capitalize on. Montreal played its best game of the series by far and still needed extra time to defeat the Lightning for the first time in the series, and even then it was touch and go for the Canadiens.

The players, however, had already turned the page on the disappointment.
Following his team’s 6-3 win in Game 3 that brought the Tampa Bay Lightning to the precipice of winning a second-straight Stanley Cup, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper was asked in his post-game media availability about the methodical approach the Bolts have taken this postseason to get to this point of achieving rarified air in the National Hockey League.

During their run in 2020 when they lifted the Cup for the first time since 2004, finally getting over the hump and fulfilling their potential after so many near misses and playoff disappointments in recent years, the question asker noted it seemed there was more emotion involved in that playoff run. This one had a business-like feel to it.

Their play was precise.
Deadly, almost, in their precision.
Cooper acknowledged the different feels to the two runs. And he used an analogy we can all relate to in explaining the difference.
